Mr. Harsh Mariwalla created Marico Ltd., a renowned Indian consumer goods company that works in the beauty and wellness industries, in 1990. Mr. Saugata Gupta is the CEO and MD of the business. In addition to notable brands like Parachute, Saffola, Nihar, and Livon, the corporation operates in over 25 different nations. A group of 39 students, visited Marico Ltd.'s production facility in Sanand, Gujarat, as part of their academic curriculum to get first-hand knowledge of the business' operations
The Marico Ltd. Sanand facility, also known as the Falcon Project, opened for business in 2020, is located on 20 acres, and is a cutting-edge manufacturing facility that complies with stringent quality and safety standards. Around 100,000 metric tonnes of goods, including hair oils, Saffola oats ,Livon hair serum, and other water based products, are produced at the facility each year.
This factory is also well-known for its unique ASRS storage facility (Automatic Storage and Retrieval System). This technique enables highly convenient small-space storage of items. Due to its complicated maintenance requirements, this facility is quite uncommon in India. This facility has been successfully implemented at Marico Ltd.
During the visit, the students were given a tour of the production unit and saw the entire production process. The raw materials used for the production of hair oils, for example, are received in the form of large barrels. The raw materials are then tested for quality and purity before being mixed and processed in large machines. The processed oil is then packed in different sizes of bottles, depending on the requirement.
At Marico Ltd. Sanand, quality control is given the utmost importance. The business has a committed staff of quality control experts who closely watch the manufacturing process to guarantee that the goods satisfy the highest standards. The establishment features an internal laboratory with cutting-edge testing apparatus to perform tests on the raw materials and completed goods.
Marico Ltd. has taken a number of steps to lessen its carbon footprint as part of its commitment to environmental sustainability. Water used in the manufacturing process is recycled and reused at the Sanand site's wastewater treatment facility. Moreover, the facility has a solar power plant that provides a substantial amount of its energy needs.
The students gained valuable insight into the workings of a top consumer goods company from their visit to Marico Ltd. Sanand. The company’s emphasis on quality assurance, environmental sustainability, and safety regulations impressed them. They saw the tour as a wonderful learning opportunity and are eager to use what they learned there in their future projects.
