Report on Cleanliness drive and Rally on 1st October 2024
Rai University organized a cleaning drive to make a positive impact on the environment and the community. A team of 50 students and 12 faculty members embarked on a journey from Rai University to Saroda Town, where we had the privilege of collaborating with local people. This report highlights the details of our cleaning drive and the impact it had on the local community.
Objectives:
The primary objective of this cleaning drive was to contribute to the cleanliness and aesthetics of the main road around University campus, making it a more pleasant and hygienic environment for the local residents and visitors.
The students of the University undertook a cleanliness campaign on the occassion of Gandhi Jayanti. The cleanliness campaign was initiated by Rai School of Sciences in collaboration with Rai School of Sciences, Rai School of Management studies, Pratyn Club, NSS units of the Rai University. The cooperation and enthusiasm shown by the local authorities were instrumental in the success of our initiative. The main idea of the cleaning drive was to make the people aware of the need to maintain the surroundings clean. The noble works of the NCC cadets was highly appreciated. Other programmes included to celebrate the occasion are awareness programme, rally and cleanliness inside and outside University campus.
On the day of culmination of the Swatchta hi seva, the cleanliness awareness campaign led by 50 students accompanied with faculty members peaked with a rally around Saroda town. Students were divided into groups, equipped with cleaning materials, including brooms, trash bags, and gloves. Our teams worked diligently to remove litter and debris, sweep the road, and collect trash from the roadside. Holding banners and placards on the theme “Clean India, Happy and Healthy India”, the students began the rally from University campus to Chandmari and back via the main road. The rally took nearly an hour and a half. Trash Collection and Disposal: A significant part of our effort involved the proper collection and disposal of the gathered trash. We worked closely with the local waste management team to ensure that waste was disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. Public Awareness: In addition to cleaning, we engaged with local residents and shopkeepers to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean environment. We encouraged them to join us in this effort and adopt responsible waste disposal habits.
Challenges: While the cleaning drive was largely successful, we did encounter some challenges. These included the volume of trash collected, limited resources, and the need for long-term community involvement in maintaining cleanliness.
Impact: The cleaning drive had several notable impacts:
1. Immediate Visual Improvement: The main road in Dholka Town transformed from a littered area to a clean and visually pleasing space.
2. Community Engagement: Our interactions with local residents and shopkeepers inspired some to take a more active role in keeping their surroundings clean.
Conclusion:
Rai University's cleaning drive & cleanliness rally was a significant step towards fostering cleanliness and community involvement. Our joint efforts with local authorities and residents resulted in a cleaner and more attractive main road. While challenges remain, the initiative has laid the groundwork for ongoing efforts to maintain the area's cleanliness and raise public awareness about environmental responsibility. Faculty members thank our students and colleagues for their dedication and hard work during this initiative. To build on the success of this cleaning drive, a recurring cleaning schedule and continuing to engage with the local community is suggested. This will help in maintaining the cleanliness of the main road and instilling a sense of responsibility for the environment among residents.
