Report on Janmashtami Celebrations by Rai University Ahmedabad on 18th August, 2022
Sweeter than honey, tastier than curd, pleasanter indeed than any happiness, and joy is the company, is the power of the name of Krishna. Janmashtami is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Krishna, one of the most powerful and famous reincarnations of Lord Vishnu. According to the Hindu calendar, this festival is celebrated on the Ashtami of Krishna Paksh, or the 8th day of the dark fortnight in the month of Bhadon. This day indicated the beginning of hope in the old times; hope that the malicious rule of Kansa would soon end.
To seek the blessings of Lord Krishna, Janmashtami was celebrated at The Rai University on August 18th, 2022, with mirth and joy. The fragrance of flowers, the soothing aroma of camphor, and the jingle of bells filled the air. While this religious significance is not lost, this day signifies a lot more to modern India. It signifies excitement, euphoria, and a joyous spirit of enthrallment. It brought devotion, creativity, enjoyment, and fun all together. Ms. Jankhana Baraiya of the faculty and the university's cultural team coordinated the event. Students, along with faculty members, do worship of Lord Krishna. The celebration began by offering homage full of devotion to Lord Krishna through Shri Krishna Aarti by Provost Dr. Anil Tomar, Dr. D.M. Patel, Deputy Registrar Ashok Roondhe, HOD and Faculty of Pharmacy, Engineering, and Management, and students of science. On this occasion, "Dahi handi" and "Ras-Garba" programmes were organized. The most significant event of the programme was "Dahi Handi", organized separately for boys and girls. More than 100 students from pharmacy, engineering, management, and science programmes took part in the different events.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Provost Anil Tomar, where he thanked all the students and faculty for their support in making the Janmashtami celebration a grand success.
