Guest lecture on "The Current Scenario of Pharmacovigilance on 18th May 2023
Rai University recently organized a guest lecture on "The Current Scenario of Pharmacovigilance in Pharmacy" by Mr. Saravanan M, the General Manager of Regulatory Affairs & Pharmacovigilance at Concord Biotech Ltd. The lecture was attended by 110 studentsThe event began with an introduction to the speaker by a student named Sheetal, who also delivered the opening remarks. Following this, Mrs. Bhoomi Patel, an Associate Professor, warmly welcomed Mr. Saravanan M after the lighting ceremony.
During his talk, Mr. Saravanan M provided valuable insights into the current scenario of Pharmacovigilance in India. He discussed the traditional system of medicine and its relevance to the topic, along with the organizational setup in the country. He shed light on the Pharmacovigilance department and the career opportunities it offers in the pharmaceutical industry. Additionally, Mr. Saravanan M elucidated the concepts of Pharmacovigilance, clinical trials, and the different phases involved in them. He also highlighted the regulatory provisions for the manufacturing, packaging, labeling, and sale of drugs, including the rules, forms, and standards for traditional medicines.
Drawing from his professional experience as a General Manager, Mr. Saravanan M shared various cases he had handled. He explained the procedures for reporting safety-related information to regulatory affairs, guidelines for dealing with adverse drug reactions and events in India, and the importance of controlling drug dispensing-related problems for patients. He emphasized that medications should not be purchased in parts or half-strips as it could lead to the loss of important information printed on the label.
The lecture concluded with Mr. Saravanan M updating the students on the scope of their profession and addressing their queries. He also highlighted the challenges and problems in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences. In recognition of his valuable contribution, Dr. Sanjesh Rathi, the Head of the Department of School of Pharmacy, presented Mr. Saravanan M with a momento and a certificate of appreciation. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs. Varsha Nadgar, an Assistant Professor of Pharmacology, followed by a warm and enthusiastic applause, marking the successful end of the event.
