“The Triple Nexus: Women’s Safety, Crime Prevention and Citizen Well-being” on 9th of October 2023

Rai University hosted a compelling workshop on ‘The Triple Nexus: Women’s Safety, Crime Prevention, and Citizen Well-being’ on the 9th of October 2023, commencing at 10:30 am. The event, held with the objective of fostering awareness and understanding of the critical interplay between women’s safety, crime prevention, and overall citizen well-being, saw an active participation of 129 students and 18 faculty members.

The distinguished speaker for the workshop was none other than Shri Anil Pratham Ji, a renowned personality in the field of law enforcement, currently serving as the Director General of Police for the Government of Gujarat. His presence added immense value to the workshop, as he shared insights and perspectives garnered from his extensive experience in the domain.

The proceedings commenced with a warm Welcome Address delivered by the Honorable Provost of Rai University, setting an inclusive and engaging tone for the event. The Registrar, in a symbolic gesture, welcomed Shri Anil Pratham Ji with a sapling, signifying the growth and nurturing of knowledge. Subsequently, the session was introduced by the Registrar of Rai University, providing context and highlighting the significance of the workshop’s theme.

The workshop highlighted the pressing issue of women’s safety, emphasizing the escalating crimes against women. Despite existing measures, challenges persist, particularly in combating sexual assault and harassment. Proposed solutions include increased police presence, stricter laws, and self-defence classes. However, a comprehensive approach is essential, involving education, awareness, and prevention. Starting with early education on respect and empathy, communities must unite through programs like neighbourhood watches and workshops. Collaboration is crucial in addressing this multifaceted problem, recognizing that while no singular solution exists, collective efforts can significantly enhance women’s safety and create a safer world for all.

As a token of appreciation and respect, the Honourable Provost presented a memento to Shri Anil Pratham Ji, recognizing his exemplary contributions to the field of policing and public safety. The workshop concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Sailesh Iyer, the Dean of the Rai School of Engineering. Dr. Iyer expressed gratitude to Shri Anil Pratham Ji for his enlightening session and extended appreciation to all the participants for their active involvement.

The workshop not only facilitated a deepened understanding of the intricate connections between women’s safety, crime prevention, and citizen well-being but also provided a platform for meaningful discourse and exchange of ideas.
